Overview
Misti is a 5,822m stratovolcano about 17km from Arequipa, known as the city's guardian. Its perfect cone is visible from every corner of town, and on clear days the snow-capped peak is magnificent. Experienced climbers can attempt the summit on a 2-day expedition, rewarded by sweeping Andean panoramas from the crater. Arequipa earned the nickname White City thanks to the volcano's white tuff stone used in its colonial buildings.
