Overview
Housed in three meticulously restored 1920s colonial shophouses on Pagoda Street, the Chinatown Heritage Centre is a lifestyle museum that vividly portrays the hard lives of Singapore's Chinese immigrants from the late 19th to mid-20th centuries. The dim, cramped tenement rooms where 4-5 families once lived together, recreations of rickshaw pullers', tailors', and goldsmiths' workshops, and faithfully detailed 1900s herbal-medicine shops and eateries deliver a powerful time-travel immersion. Audio guides in English share testimonies from actual first-generation immigrants, deepening understanding of war, migration, and the formation of a multi-ethnic city-state. Admission about SGD 18. A 2-minute walk from MRT Chinatown Station.
