Overview
Founded in 1886, the city's main pagoda climbs from a dragon-mosaic hall up 152 steps to a 24m white seated Buddha, built to honor the monks who resisted the 1963 persecution — reliefs of Thich Quang Duc and others ring its base. The hilltop overlooks the city, the railway and the sea, and a 17m reclining Buddha rests midway up. It's a free, active temple: dress modestly and keep voices low.
