Overview
Xi'an Museum, opened in 2007 southwest of the old Jianfu Temple site where the Small Wild Goose Pagoda stands, surveys 2,000 years of the city's history from the Han through Tang dynasties (as ancient Chang'an) through about 2,000 curated artifacts. Tang tricolor figurines, gold and silver crafts, and mural fragments excavated from Chang'an form the core collection, with an especially striking model recreating the scale and cosmopolitan status of Tang-dynasty Chang'an. Sharing grounds with the Small Wild Goose Pagoda makes for an easy combined visit. Free admission (bring a passport; WeChat reservation recommended). A 10-minute walk from Nanshaomen Station (Metro Line 2).
