Overview
About 5km from Pamukkale, the small village of Karahayıt is known for its iron-rich red thermal waters. In striking contrast to Pamukkale's white travertine, the mineral deposits here are red and orange, creating a unique landscape. The water temperature reaches about 60C, and the springs have long been valued by Turkish locals for their reputed healing effects on arthritis and skin conditions. Hot-spring hotels in the village offer free or inexpensive bathing. About 10 minutes by minibus from Pamukkale.
