Overview
Built under the French and expanded during the Vietnam War, this camp — nicknamed the Coconut Tree Prison — held up to 40,000 POWs. The barbed-wire 'tiger cages' and unflinching recreations make it a heavy visit, but it is the island's most important historic site, framing what Phu Quoc endured beyond its beaches. A special national relic, free to enter, ten minutes from Sao Beach on the southern loop.
