Overview
Founded in 1910, the Johannesburg Art Gallery is one of Africa's largest and oldest art museums. Set within Joubert Park, it houses over 9,000 works spanning 17th-century Dutch paintings, French Impressionism, and South African contemporary art. Standout artists include South Africans William Kentridge, Irene Greggs, and Gerard Sekoto, and the African traditional art and sculpture collection is also impressive. The Edwardian Neoclassical building itself is architecturally beautiful. Free admission. Located in Joubert Park in the city centre.
Opening Hours
Tue-Sun 10:00-17:00 (closed Mondays)
