Overview
The Great Ocean Road is a roughly 243km coastal route west of Melbourne and one of the world's most scenic drives. The Twelve Apostles (with eight still standing), carved by the wild Southern Ocean, are the most famous sight, joined by Loch Ard Gorge, London Arch, and a long string of dramatic sea cliffs. Along the way you'll find ancient tree walks in the Otway rainforest, Kennett River for koala spotting, and the legendary surf at Bells Beach.
Opening Hours
Open 24 hours (visitor center: 09:00-17:00).
Travel Tips
A day trip from Melbourne is doable, but two days gives you a relaxed pace. The Twelve Apostles are most beautiful at sunset, and helicopter tours offer an unforgettable view from above.
