Dodamsambong Peaks
4.4

Dodamsambong Peaks

Three limestone peaks stand midstream — the first of Danyang's Eight Views. The pavilion on the central peak was beloved of Joseon founding statesman Jeong Do-jeon, who took his pen name 'Sambong' from it. A riverside deck, musical fountain and motorboat rides serve visitors; misty dawns and the illuminated night view offer two different moods, with the hillside overlook giving the classic frame. A riverside path continues to Seongmun, the Second View, for the standard pairing.

HoursAlways open (boats and fountain daytime-evening)
LocationMaepo-eup, Danyang
TipsRiver mist rises on cool spring and autumn dawns; check the fountain and illumination hours (to 10pm).

Mancheonha Skywalk

Perched 120m above the Namhan River, three horseshoe arms tip out in glass floors with the water sliding beneath your feet, the town and river bends spread wide. The complex packs a 980m zipwire, alpine coaster and giant slide, shuttles run to the top, and the Suyanggae Light Tunnel next door extends the day into a night of media art.

Gosu Cave
4.2

Gosu Cave

Formed over 450 million years, this Natural Monument earns its 'underground palace' nickname with dense stalactites, stalagmites and columns along a 1.7km route of narrow passages and steep steel stairs — an explorer's cave, never a dull walk. A constant 15°C makes it summer refuge and winter shelter alike, five minutes from downtown, with Gugyeong Market's garlic snacks waiting after.

Hours9:00-17:30 (to 17:00 in winter)
LocationDanyang-eup, Danyang
TipsWear the helmet — ceilings drop low — and grippy shoes. Peak-season weekends favor morning visits.

Sainam Rock
4.2

Sainam Rock

Rising some 70m sheer from Ungyecheon stream, this jointed cliff face — cracked like a go board, pines clinging to its crown — looks lifted from a classical landscape painting. Named for the Goryeo scholar U Tak who loved it while serving as sain, it bears carved inscriptions by Joseon master calligraphers; the stream below fills with summer bathers, and a footbridge leads to the Cheongnyeonam hermitage. Visible right from the road, it crowns the Danyangcheon valley drive past the three Seonam rocks.

HoursAlways open
LocationDaegang-myeon, Danyang
TipsMorning light on the cliff face photographs best; summer weekends fill the stream — go weekdays.

Guinsa Temple
4.3

Guinsa Temple

Founded in 1945 as the head temple of the Cheontae order, Guinsa fills a narrow Sobaeksan ravine with some fifty tiered halls climbing both slopes — modern multi-story buildings under traditional roofs, less a mountain temple than a temple city, with the walk up to the five-story main hall a pilgrimage in itself. It can lodge tens of thousands, and its free communal meals are a tradition open to all. Combine with Ondal Park and Sobaeksan hikes for a northern Danyang day.

HoursSunrise to sunset
LocationYeongchun-myeon, Danyang
TipsIt's a 30-minute uphill walk from the lot — wear real shoes. Time your visit to share the temple meal.

Bolted to the Namhan River cliff, this 1.2km plank way runs from the Sangjin rail bridge to the Mancheonha Skywalk entrance, grated sections revealing the water below. Cliff, river and passing trains compose Danyang's newest signature photo, lit for evening walks — and with the market and station at one end and the skywalk at the other, it strings the town's highlights together on foot.
