Busan

Gyeongsang Province

Busan

부산

South Korea's second city, blending sea and mountains. Haeundae's white-sand beach, Gamcheon Culture Village's colorful terraced houses, and Jagalchi Market's fresh seafood are the three iconic draws. The Gwangalli cafe strip paired with the Gwangan Bridge night view sets a romantic mood. More laid-back and generous in spirit than Seoul, Busan is especially recommended for solo travelers and foodies.

Best Season

Summer (July-August) for swimming and autumn (September-November) for foliage. October's Busan Fireworks Festival is also worth catching.

Budget

Daily budget around 70,000-120,000 KRW (lodging 40,000-80,000; food 20,000-30,000; transport 10,000).

Transport

About 2 hours 30 minutes from Seoul by KTX. The subway and buses serve the city well; a scenic beach train also runs between Haeundae and Gwangalli. SIM cards available at Busan Station and Haeundae (about KRW 20,000/week). Most places accept cards, and tipping is not customary.

Visa

No visa required - this is domestic travel within Korea.

Safety

Generally safe overall, but be cautious about drinking near the beach and summer rip currents.
