Overview
Petaling Street (Jalan Petaling) is the main thoroughfare of KL's Chinatown and the heart of a Chinese immigrant community formed during the late-19th-century tin-mining boom. A green roof covers the 200 m stretch, and hundreds of stalls flank both sides selling knockoff luxury goods, clothing, watches, souvenirs, and street food. Bargaining is essential — aim for 30-50% of the asking price. The Chinatown gates at either end, the 1888 Guan Ti Temple, and the 1873 Sri Maha Mariamman Temple (KL's oldest Hindu temple) are also worth visiting. Hawker stalls serve KL specialties like Hokkien Mee and Ice Kacang. Free entry. A 5-minute walk from MRT Pasar Seni Station.
