Overview
The Getty Center is a world-renowned art museum set atop the Brentwood hills, designed by architect Richard Meier in white travertine with sweeping views of LA and the Pacific Ocean. Its core collection features European paintings by Van Gogh, Monet, Rembrandt, and others, with over 80,000 works spanning photography, sculpture, and decorative arts. The central garden by designer Robert Irwin is itself a work of art. Funded by oil magnate J. Paul Getty's endowment, admission is free. Free admission (parking $20). A free tram runs from the I-405 Getty Center Drive entrance to the hilltop.
Travel Tips
Arrive before sunset to enjoy LA views and Pacific sunsets from the terraces. Free Saturday evening concerts are sometimes offered. Parking is limited, so reserve in advance.
