Overview
The Hollywood Sign was originally erected in 1923 as a real estate advertisement but evolved into the symbol of the American film industry. Set on the southern slope of Mount Lee in Griffith Park, each letter stands about 14m tall. The best views are from Griffith Observatory, and hiking trails lead near the back of the sign. A defining LA photo spot, it has remained a pop culture icon from Hollywood's Golden Age to today.
