Overview
Zhujiajiao is a canal town dating back to the Yuan dynasty with over 1,700 years of history, located about 30km west of downtown Shanghai and nicknamed 'the Venice of Shanghai.' Its 36 stone bridges from the Ming and Qing dynasties — most famously the five-arched Fangsheng Bridge — anchor a waterside townscape of traditional houses and shops preserving old Jiangnan charm. Entering the town is free; gardens like Kezhi Garden and Hexin Garden and gondola rides cost extra (gardens CNY 20-30, an 8-site combo ticket CNY 60, boat rides about CNY 200 per boat). About a 15-minute walk from Zhujiajiao Station (Metro Line 17).
Travel Tips
Redeem tickets at the Tourist Center by 3 PM. Sharing a gondola with up to 6 people brings down the per-person cost.
