Overview
Built over seven years starting in 1702 by Yanagisawa Yoshiyasu, a close aide to the fifth Tokugawa shogun, Rikugien recreates 88 famous scenes from classical Japanese waka poetry within its grounds. A masterpiece of the 'stroll-style' garden centered on a pond, it is designated a Special Place of Scenic Beauty. The weeping cherry tree in spring and the illuminated autumn foliage are especially beautiful. Admission JPY 300. A 7-minute walk from JR Komagome Station.

Visit in the evening during the autumn illumination period (mid-November to early December). The huge weeping cherry near the entrance peaks in late March.
