Overview
Designated in 1873 as Japan's first modern public park, Ueno Park is one of Tokyo's largest urban green spaces. Around 1,000 cherry trees make it a top hanami spot in spring, and the grounds also host the Tokyo National Museum, Ueno Zoo, and Shinobazu Pond, offering a full day of activities. Once part of Kan'ei-ji Temple during the Edo period, it opened as a public park after the Meiji Restoration. Free entry (facilities extra). A 2-minute walk from JR Ueno Station, Park Exit.
