Cheonggyecheon

Jung-gu, Seoul

Overview

Cheonggyecheon was a natural stream flowing since the Joseon era, later covered by an elevated highway in the 20th century, then restored in 2005 into a 10.9km walkway running through the heart of the city. It begins at Cheonggye Plaza near Gwanghwamun and continues past Dongdaemun to Seongdong District, hosting seasonal light and lantern festivals that make it a beloved night-view spot. The sound of water flowing between city skyscrapers offers a soothing escape. Free admission. A 5-minute walk from Jonggak Station (Line 1).
