Overview
Jordaan evolved from a 17th-century working-class quarter into Amsterdam's trendiest residential and tourist district. Narrow canals and lanes are packed with indie galleries, boutiques, vintage shops, and brown cafes (traditional Dutch pubs). On Saturday mornings, the Noordermarkt organic market sells local cheese, bread, and flowers. The Anne Frank House is also in this district, and the true joy of Jordaan is strolling the canalside streets discovering hidden hofjes (courtyards). Free to wander. Right at Tram 13/17 Westermarkt stop.
Opening Hours
Open 24 hours (individual shops and cafes keep their own hours)
Travel Tips
The Saturday morning Noordermarkt organic market and Monday morning flea market are especially popular. Try Dutch beer at a canalside brown cafe.
