Overview
Completed in 1849, the Royal Palace is the official residence of the Norwegian royal family, standing on a hill where Karl Johans gate (Oslo's main boulevard) begins. The elegant Neoclassical building has 174 rooms and hosts royal ceremonies. Guided tours of the interior run only from late June to mid-August in summer, while the surrounding palace park (Slottsparken) is always free and open. The daily noon changing of the guard (Kongegarden) in red uniforms is a highlight. Guided tour about NOK 175 (summer only). 5-minute walk from Metro Nationaltheatret station.
