Overview
Completed in 1861, this Neo-Gothic wooden cathedral is the world's northernmost wooden cathedral. Standing at the heart of Tromsø Island, its dark brown elegant spire stands out among the colorful wooden buildings. The interior is understated with white walls and a teal ceiling, seating about 750. Often confused with the iconic Arctic Cathedral across the bridge, this is actually Tromsø's real cathedral, built as the city's population grew rapidly in the 1840s. Free admission. Central downtown location.
Opening Hours
Mon-Fri 10:00-15:00 (limited access during Sunday services; varies seasonally).
