Overview
Founded in 1565 by Spanish conquistadors, the Basilica del Santo Niño is the Philippines' oldest Roman Catholic church. It enshrines the original Santo Niño (Holy Child Jesus) statue gifted by Magellan to the queen of Cebu in 1521, making it the country's most important Catholic pilgrimage site. Each January the Sinulog Festival draws millions for grand parades and ritual dances. Free admission (donations welcome). Right beside Magellan's Cross.
