Overview
This 67m stone tower was built by the Genoese in 1348 and is one of Istanbul's oldest observation points. Originally a watchtower, legend has it that in the 17th century Hezarfen Ahmet Çelebi flew on wings from the tower across the Bosphorus. From the top, a 360-degree panorama takes in the Golden Horn, Bosphorus, Sultanahmet's old city, and the Asian shore. The surrounding Galata district is a hip neighbourhood packed with trendy cafes, record shops, and vintage stores. Admission about TRY 650 (about EUR 19). 10-minute uphill walk from Tram T1 Karaköy.
