Overview
The 9/11 Memorial occupies the footprints of the Twin Towers, destroyed in the September 11, 2001 attacks. Two massive square fountains called 'Reflecting Absence' bear the names of all 2,983 victims, with cascading water symbolizing profound loss. Below ground, the museum uses real artifacts, media, and survivor testimony to present that day's tragedy and the path to recovery. The adjacent One World Trade Center (541m) observatory is a natural pairing. Memorial free; Museum $33. Subway: WTC Cortlandt (1/R/W) or World Trade Center (E).
Opening Hours
Memorial 24 hours / Museum: daily 09:00-19:00 (closed Tue)
Travel Tips
Strongly recommend booking the museum online in advance and allowing at least 2 hours. Tuesdays after 17:00 are free entry but very busy.
