Opened in 1870, The Met is America's largest art museum with over 2 million works spanning 5,000 years of human history. World-class galleries include the Egyptian Temple of Dendur, European Paintings (Rembrandt, Vermeer, Van Gogh), American Wing, Asian Art, and Arms and Armor. Famous as the annual host of the Met Gala in May, the rooftop garden offers stunning views of Central Park and the Manhattan skyline. Admission $30 (pay-what-you-wish for NY residents). 10-minute walk from 86 St station (4/5/6).
