Overview
Climbing to 496m where the Annamite range plunges into the sea between Da Nang and Hue, the pass earns its name as clouds roll off the water and over the road. Made famous by BBC Top Gear as one of the world's best coast roads, every switchback reframes Lang Co lagoon and the sea. At the summit stand wartime bunkers and the Nguyen-dynasty Hai Van Gate. Ride it by motorbike (or pillion with an Easy Rider), or add it as a detour on a Da Nang-Hue transfer — truck traffic has thinned since the tunnel opened.
