Overview
The spiritual heart of the Champa kingdom from the 4th to 13th centuries: some 70 red-brick towers once stood in this mountain-ringed jungle basin. War bombing felled many, but the twenty-odd that remain still distill Shiva worship and Champa architecture — including mortarless brickwork that puzzles engineers today. UNESCO-listed in 1999. Electric carts shuttle you from the gate, morning Apsara dance shows add color, and sunrise half-day tours from Da Nang (about 70 minutes away) beat both heat and crowds.
