Overview
Construction of the Koekelberg Basilica began to mark the 75th anniversary of Belgian independence and finished in 1970, making it one of the largest Art Deco buildings in the world. Its green dome rises 89 meters and dominates the western Brussels skyline; it's the world's fifth-largest church building, with an interior filled with modernist stained glass on an overwhelming scale. A glass elevator carries visitors to a panorama deck with sweeping views over Brussels and its suburbs. Basilica free; panorama deck ticketed separately. 10-minute walk from Metro Line 2 Simonis station.
