Overview
The Coudenberg Palace served as the royal residence of the Dukes of Burgundy and the Habsburgs from the 15th century until it burned down in 1731 and was buried and forgotten. Excavated beneath the Royal Palace square in the late 20th century, the underground ruins are now open to the public, revealing the foundations of the great hall (Aula Magna) and traces of the old Rue Isabelle through interactive displays. Entry is via the BELvue Museum, making it a good pairing for anyone interested in Belgian history. Admission about EUR 8. 5-minute walk from Brussels Central Station.
