Overview
At 2,076m, Schynige Platte is reached by a retro cogwheel train running since 1893. The summit features an Alpine botanical garden with over 600 wildflower species, a treat for nature lovers. Views encompass the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau alongside both Lake Brienz and Lake Thun, and several well-groomed hiking trails fan out from the top. The 6-hour hike to First is considered one of the finest Alpine treks. Train return about CHF 66 (free with Swiss Travel Pass). Board at Wilderswil station east of Interlaken; about 52 minutes up.
