Above all, the annual Shosoin Exhibition (late October to mid-November) unveils a rotating selection of Emperor Shomu's belongings and Silk Road treasures sealed for 1,300 years in Todai-ji's Shosoin repository — the biggest event on Japan's museum calendar.
