Overview

Pungnammun is the only surviving gate of the four gates of the Joseon-era Jeonju town fortress, a treasured cultural asset designated a national Treasure. Its grand two-story hip-and-gable roof and semicircular defensive wall showcase old fortress architecture. Standing in the middle of a downtown rotary, it serves as a symbolic landmark, taking on a different mood when lit at night. Exterior viewing is free and always open. Close to Nambu Market and the Hanok Village for a combined visit.
