Gateway to the fjords and a charming port city famous for the colorful wooden buildings of Bryggen. UNESCO-listed Bryggen, panoramic views from Mount Fløyen, and fresh seafood at the Fish Market are Bergen highlights. One of Europe's rainiest cities, but even a rain-soaked harbor has its charm — and it is the starting point for tours of the Sognefjord and Hardangerfjord.
Best Season
May to September is best. Bergen is one of Europe's rainiest cities, so always pack a raincoat. Summer is prime for fjord tours.
Budget
Daily budget around KRW 180,000-350,000 (lodging 100,000-200,000, food 50,000-80,000, transport and entry 30,000-50,000).
Transport
From Bergen Airport, the Bybanen light rail reaches downtown in about 45 minutes. The city center is easily walkable; the Bergen Card is recommended. Prepaid SIMs are available at the airport (Telenor, Telia, etc., about NOK 150-250/EUR 13-22 per week). Norway is nearly cashless — card payments are universal. Service is included but tipping 5-10% extra is common.
Visa
Korean passport holders can stay visa-free in the Schengen Area for up to 90 days.
Safety
Very safe overall. Frequent rain means waterproof gear is a must.
