Overview
Kathmandu Durbar Square is a UNESCO World Heritage district packed with the palaces and temples of the former Malla kingdom and Newar dynasties. Highlights include the Hanuman Dhoka Palace, Taleju Temple, and the Kumari Ghar - home to Nepal's living goddess - showcasing the finest medieval Nepali architecture. Much was damaged in the 2015 earthquake but restoration continues, and daily life and festivals still fill the square with energy. Admission NPR 1,000 (foreigners). About a 20-minute walk from Thamel.
