Overview
Pashupatinath is Nepal's largest and most sacred Hindu temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva. Set along the Bagmati River, the surrounding ghats host traditional Hindu cremation ceremonies. The gold-roofed inner sanctum is open only to Hindus, but the riverbank opposite gives a full view of the complex and the sadhus (holy ascetics) who gather there. Admission NPR 1,000 (foreigners). About 20 minutes by taxi from Thamel.
Opening Hours
Daily 04:00-21:00 (inner sanctum open to Hindus only)
Travel Tips
Be respectful when photographing cremations. A small tip is customary if you take photos with the sadhus.
