Overview
Mission Bay is a popular beach about 7km east of downtown Auckland, with views of the Hauraki Gulf and Rangitoto Island. A golden sand beach is backed by cafes, restaurants, and ice cream shops, and in summer it's packed with swimmers and sunbathers. The coastal promenade (Tamaki Drive) is great for cycling or walking. A fountain garden and Art Deco buildings add to the atmosphere. Free entry. About 20 minutes by bus from the city center.
