Overview
Built in the late 17th century in Baroque style, Drottningholm is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the private residence of the Swedish royal family. Often called the 'Versailles of Sweden,' it features French and English gardens and the Drottningholm Palace Theatre, preserved exactly as it was in the 18th century. The theatre is the world's best-preserved historic theatre, with original 18th-century stage machinery still in use — summer performances use original costumes and stage effects. The Chinese Pavilion (Kina Slott) is another curiosity. Combined admission about SEK 200. About 1 hour by ferry from the city or 30 minutes by metro + bus.
Opening Hours
10:00-16:30 (varies seasonally; reduced Nov-Mar).
