Overview
Founded in the 13th century on Stadsholmen island, Gamla Stan is one of Northern Europe's best-preserved medieval town centres. Cobblestone alleys are lined with vibrant 17th- and 18th-century buildings, and the narrowest lane — Mårten Trotzigs Gränd — is just 90cm wide. The Royal Palace, Nobel Museum, and Storkyrkan Cathedral cluster here, and Stortorget square was the site of the 1520 Stockholm Bloodbath. Free to explore. Directly at Metro Gamla Stan station.
Opening Hours
Open 24 hours (Royal Palace 10:00-16:00; Nobel Museum 10:00-18:00)
