Overview
Centered on Thailand's highest peak (2,565 m), Doi Inthanon National Park spans about 482 km² and is known as 'the roof of Thailand.' The summit sits in misty primeval cloud forest with year-round temperatures of 9-18°C and remarkable birdlife and flora. The twin chedis built for King Bhumibol and Queen Sirikit's 60th birthdays — Naphapholphumisiri and Naphamethanidol — and their gardens are stunning, while 30 m Wachirathan Falls and Sirithan Falls are equally popular. Karen and Hmong hill-tribe villages offer a look at traditional farming culture and coffee farms. Admission THB 300 for foreigners (plus THB 30 per vehicle). About 1.5 hours by car from Chiang Mai.
Opening Hours
Daily 05:30-18:30
Travel Tips
The summit can be 15°C cooler than the city — bring long sleeves and a jacket. A day tour bundling Wachirathan Falls, the twin chedis, and the summit cloud forest (about THB 1,200-1,500) is the most efficient option.
