Overview
Founded in 1391, Wat Chedi Luang is the centerpiece temple of Chiang Mai's Old City, famous for its massive Lanna-style chedi that once stood 82 m tall. A 1545 earthquake collapsed the upper portion, but the remaining 60 m ruin is still awe-inspiring — and the chedi once housed Bangkok's Emerald Buddha (now at Wat Phra Kaew). The temple runs free 'Monk Chat' sessions on Wednesday and Friday evenings where you can ask resident monks about Thai Buddhism. Admission THB 50. Located in the heart of the Old City between Chiang Mai Gate and Tha Pae Gate.
Opening Hours
