Overview
The highest point in Cappadocia, Uçhisar Castle is a fortress carved from a massive natural rock formation, used as a defensive stronghold in both Byzantine and Ottoman times. Inside, rooms and tunnels form a labyrinth, and climbing to the top reveals a 360-degree view spanning Mount Erciyes, Göreme Valley, and Pigeon Valley — the finest panorama in all of Cappadocia. The golden sunset light on the terrain is especially spectacular, and the village below offers upscale cave hotels and cafes. Admission about TRY 60 (about EUR 2). About 10 minutes by minibus from Göreme.
