Overview
Kilimanjaro is Africa's highest peak at 5,895m, and despite sitting near the equator its summit holds permanent snow and ice. Known as 'the Roof of Africa', it is the world's tallest 'walk-up' mountain since the summit can be reached without technical climbing gear. Treks cross five climate zones - rainforest, moorland, alpine desert, and glacier - over 5 to 9 days. Sunrise at Uhuru Peak is remembered as one of life's most moving moments.
Opening Hours
Climbing possible year-round (dry season recommended)
Travel Tips
The popular Machame route (6-7 days) is recommended; don't rush, as acclimatization is critical. The dry seasons (January-March, June-October) are best for climbing, and hiring local guides and porters is mandatory.
