Overview
Ngorongoro Crater is the world's largest intact volcanic caldera, formed about 2.5 million years ago when a massive volcano erupted and collapsed, and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Roughly 20km in diameter and 600m deep, the crater floor is a natural amphitheater where about 25,000 wild animals live and breed in self-contained harmony. You can see the Big Five in a single day, and it is a key habitat for the endangered black rhino. The panoramic view from the crater rim is breathtaking.

Travel Tips
A half-day safari inside the crater is enough, and vehicles can only descend in the morning. At 2,286m elevation, mornings and evenings are cold, so bring warm layers.
