The Obelisco is a 67m monument erected in 1936 to mark the 400th anniversary of the founding of Buenos Aires, standing in the middle of Avenida 9 de Julio — the world's widest avenue. As the city's most iconic landmark, it's also where crowds gather to celebrate football victories and national events. Theaters, restaurants, and cafés line the surrounding streets, making it a great place to soak up the city's energy.
