Opened as a theater in 1919 and converted into a bookstore in 2000, the old stage is now a café and the seating boxes hold bookshelves, with the original frescoed ceiling and red curtains still intact — National Geographic named it the "world's most beautiful bookstore." Admission is free with no obligation to buy, making it ideal for a photo stop. It's located at Av. Santa Fe 1860, within walking distance of Callao station on subway Line D. It's open weekdays 9am to 10pm and weekends noon to 9pm.
