Overview
Established in 1822, Recoleta Cemetery is the most famous cemetery in Buenos Aires and the resting place of Argentine presidents, Nobel laureates, and Eva Perón (Evita). About 4,700 tombs are each adorned with elaborate sculpture and architecture, creating an open-air museum. Visitors can admire styles ranging from Greek temples to Egyptian pyramids and Gothic, and wandering its maze-like paths offers a unique way to reflect on Argentine history.
