Overview
The Children's Eternal Rainforest began in 1987 when Swedish schoolchildren, moved by news of Costa Rican deforestation, started raising funds to protect it. Kids from 44 countries — Japan, England, Germany, and beyond — joined in, eventually funding the purchase of 23,000 hectares now managed by the Monteverde Conservation League as one of the world's largest private reserves. The visitor center in Cerro Plano provides information, with actual trail access split across several sectors such as Bajo del Tigre and San Gerardo.
