Overview
Located in the village of Zlatá Koruna in the Vltava valley, about 6-8km north of Český Krumlov, this Cistercian monastery was founded by King Ottokar II in the 13th century. Visitors can choose between two guided tours: the 'Sacral Route,' centered on the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, and 'Monastery with the Baroque Pharmacy,' which explores everyday monastic life. A cloistered courtyard and a mix of Gothic and Baroque architecture reveal centuries of monastic life, making it one of South Bohemia's most significant religious landmarks. Tours cost roughly CZK 150-250 depending on the route. Open seasonally April-October, with online booking at least 48 hours ahead recommended.
