Overview
Opened in 1914, Den Gamle By is the world's first open-air town museum, with more than 75 historic buildings relocated from across Denmark to recreate urban life from the 17th century through the 1970s. Costumed actors run bakeries, pharmacies, and blacksmith shops, and visitors can join in. The Christmas season is especially atmospheric with traditional decorations and a market.
Opening Hours
10:00-17:00 (10:00-18:00 in July-August; varies seasonally).
Travel Tips
The Christmas season (November-December) is the most magical. Plan at least 3 hours to explore all the era-specific districts.
