Overview
Granted to the citizens of Aarhus by Queen Margaret I in 1395 — making it Denmark's first public forest — Riis Skov is an 80-hectare beech forest stretching along Aarhus Bay. Oak, larch, maple, and ash trees mix in among the beeches, and well-maintained coastal paths and bike trails draw plenty of joggers and picnickers. Bordering the Risskov district, it's an easily accessible natural retreat from the city center. Free to visit.
