Overview
Design began in the 18th century, but construction stalled for lack of funds and the site sat in ruins for decades until industrialist C.F. Tietgen's donation allowed it to be completed in 1894. Though built of cheaper Norwegian limestone rather than actual marble, it kept the nickname 'the Marble Church.' Its 31m dome, inspired by Rome's Pantheon, is one of Scandinavia's largest church domes. It's a short walk from Amalienborg Palace. Free entry to the church; dome tours cost extra (details may change).
